The C4s starts on the A762 at Glenald and heads west, almost immediately crossing the Tarff Water at Low Bridge of Tarff. It then climbs a little to pass through Twynholm, continuing west and crossing the A75 at a reconfigured crossroads. The route now climbs higher into the hills before dropping down to meet the B727 below Townhead.
