This article is about the Class III road numbered C1s maintained by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
For other roads numbered C1, see C1.
For other roads numbered C1, see C1.
The C1s starts on the A745 on the edge of Castle Douglas, and heads north east, following the old military road, built over 250 years ago by Caulfeild to connect Carlisle and Port Patrick on the Mull of Galloway. It crosses the River Urr and then the B794 at Haugh and then climbs up into the gently undulating hills. The road is never far from the A75 to the north, although in this section they never meet. After passing through the small village of Lochfoot, the route passes between two low hills, and comes to an end at the old district boundary at South Castlehill. The road continues east to meet the A711 at Drumsleet.
