The C142a has to be one of the strangest C-class roads in the country. Many maps show it as a spur of the B7076, and it certainly acts as such. It starts where the B7076 turns to pass under the motorway, and then runs north west to the start of motorway regulations, and the end of two-way running at a field entrance. It is therefore essentially the northbound onslip for the A74(M) at Gretna.
