This article is about the Class III road numbered C79a maintained by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

For other roads numbered C79, see C79.
The C79a starts on the B709 on the south side of Enzieholm Bridge over the River Esk and continues to follow the west bank of the river as it meanders upstream. Below Bailliehill, it crosses the Black Esk just above the confluence, and keeps on the west bank of the White Esk through the forest, eventually rejoining the B709, which has taken a much more direct route, at Eskdalemuir.
