Route outline (key)
B923 Burntisland - Kinghorn
Dodhead

The B923 is a short B-road in south Fife. It takes an inland route, linking the A921 coast road to itself. The route remains unchanged from 1922.

The road starts at a roundabout where it meets the A909 and A921 to the north of Burntisland town centre. It heads east along Kirkcaldy Road, climbing as it does so, and quickly reaches the edge of the small town. The gradient eases as it passes between a golf course to the south and woodland to the north which hides old industrial workings. After crossing a couple of fields and going through another wood, the B923 reaches the wooded shores of Loch Kinghorn, where it curves to the right to skirt the southern side of the loch. It feels like quite a steep drop to the water, with just an old stone wall along the side of the road for much of the length.

Beyond the loch, the road crosses a small burn which is the outfall from the loch, and immediately enters a modern housing estate, built in the 2020s. This is the edge of Kinghorn itself, the road now named Birch Avenue as it follows a long straight through a rebuilt staggered crossroads. In an unusual twist, the new houses are accessed directly from the B923 (via shared driveways) without service roads or rear access, while the older estates further east back onto the route. The final stretch as the road descends along the northern edge of town is Orchard Terrace, before it comes to and end at a triangular junction back on the A921 at the eastern end of the town.

The 1922 MOT Road List defines this route as: Burntisland - Junction with A92 near Kinghorn
