B990

The B990 is a short link road to the north of Aberdeen city centre. The route starts on the A96 at the Mounthooly Roundabout and heads north east along Mouynthooly / Mounthooly Way, crossing a railway line to terminate on the A956, King Street. This road is a comparatively new road; Mounthooly formerly curved into Kings Crescent, with the extension of Mounthooly Way dating from the 1990s (the fire station opened in 1998). In 2020 the B990 was diverted onto this road in place of the one way Nelson Street to the south.

Nelson Street Heading east

The original route of the B990 was along Nelson Street, immediately to the south of the current route. This street is one-way eastbound so the only access was southbound from the A96 immediately after the roundabout. At the far end of Nelson Street, just before the end of the route, it turned right at a T-junction into the cul-de-sac of Nelson Court, and became two-way for its final 25m before it ended at another T-junction on the A956 King Street. This last bit was obviously only changed when Nelson Court was built in the 1980s.
