|Route outline (key)|
The B983 is an urban B-road in Aberdeen.
It starts at a roundabout with the A956 by Riverside Drive and heads north along South College Street, meeting the former A93 at Wellington Place. The route then follows College Street and the Wapping Street/Guild Street gyratory before heading under the Trinity shopping centre as a dual carriageway through the Denburn valley. The B983 then terminates at the Woolmanhill Roundabout with the A9119.
The B983 route was originally quite distinct from the route it takes today, as described in the B983 (Wapping Street - North Anderson Drive) article. The new route was assigned in 2020 when Aberdeen City Council performed a significant reclassification of routes within the city.
The current routing takes over much of the route of the former B986, alongside the part of the truncated A93 route along College Street and Wapping/Guild Street. South of College Street, the road was unclassified. Following the reclassification in 2020, it's not currently clear what the road number north of the Woolmanhill Roundabout is - according to council documents, this is due to become an A-road once the Berryden Corridor dualling project is complete. The Ordnance Survey has given this stretch of road the B983 number too, but the council's documentation only shows the B983 running to Woolmanhill.
