The B960 is a short B-road in Dundee.
Route
The current southern end of the B960 is on the A929 at a TOTSO junction on Dens Road. The A929 turns east onto Arthurstone Terrace while the B960 continues north, quickly bearing left at a roundabout but remaining on Dens Road. After crossing a signalised junction and mini roundabout, the route curves west onto Moncur Crescent. So far, the B960 has been lined by tall tenement blocks on one side or the other, mostly looking out across the road at lines of trees screening the more modern housing estates beyond. However, at the north end of Dens Road lies one of three Football Stadiums in close proximity, and then Moncur Crescent is lined with twentieth century tenement style flats sitting above the road on grassy banks. The route then bears right at another roundabout onto Strathmartine Road, which is once more lined with older tenement blocks interspersed with industrial and retail premises.
A short distance further on is a set of traffic lights at a crossroads with Clepington Road, where the B960 turns left. After passing an industrial area, it soon widens as it curves north west past some large bungalows set back in gardens. There are only a few, however, before the bulky mass of the Kingsway Retail Park is reached. The stores and service yards largely back on to the B960, although one of the retail park entrances is at a signalised T junction. A short distance further on, the B960 comes to its end at a roundabout GSJ on Kingsway, the A90.
History
The road originally started in the dockyard area of town and headed north along Commercial Street, to cross the A92 High Street before curving around Meadowside and bearing right into Victoria Road and turning left onto Dens Road. This section was presumably renumbered with the building of the A991 Inner ring road. Commercial Street is now unclassified as it lies in the city centre, while Victoria Road and the lower part of Dens Road are now part of the A929.
At the opposite end of the route, it originally came to an end at the crossroads with Clepington Road. This was, at the time, the B959, a sort of by pass for the city. However, with the construction of the Kingsway, which became the A972, the A959 was shortened, and the part of Clepington Road between the crossroads and the new Kingsway became an extension of the B960, which it remains today.
