For the original B708 east of Bathgate, see B708 (Bathgate - Livingston).
The B708 is a short link road between Armadale and Bathgate in West Lothian.
The route starts at the signalised Bathville Cross on the B8084 (former A706) to the south of Armadale town centre. It heads east through the suburbs along Lower Bathville, passing a handful of side roads serving residential areas, and an area of waste ground, formerly a large industrial site on the right before reaching a mini-roundabout. Although newer housing estates tend to back on to the route, the majority of the roadside is older housing fronting directly onto the B708. Presently the route enters open country, with woodland on the left and almost immediately crosses a bridge over the A801 eastern bypass. Fields follow, but it's not long before the road becomes urban again as it enters the western suburbs of Bathgate on Sibbalds Brae. After a few roadside properties, the houses are set back behind service roads as it heads east through Windyknowe. A left kink brings it onto Hardhill Road, with houses on both sides and soon the route reaches traffic lights on the A89, where it ends.
History
The route was originally unclassified but had gained its number at some point between 1955 and 1958, shortly after the original incarnation on the opposite side of Bathgate was unclassified. To date there is no evidence that the two B708s co-existed as a single route.
