The original B16 was a short route which started on the A1 at Crosby Crossroads and headed north east along Eyreton Road, before turning east to run along the hillside to Mount Rule. It ended here at a fork junction with the B15. At some point before 1963 the whole route was renumbered as the northern part of the A23.
The Manx Government Circular 1131 of 25/02/1926 defines this route as: Crosby to Mount Rule
