The B44 is a short route which climbs up from the A7 at Colby to meet the A36 as it climbs up to Round Table. It is generally a narrow and windy route, as it runs between fields, and curves around the scattered farms and houses along the way. The lower section is mostly a narrow S2, although there are a few places, particularly on bends, where it is almost twice this width. As it climbs, however, it gets steadily narrower and when the houses of Ballakilpheric peter out, the road becomes effectively single track for a time, running between banks topped with hedges. This steep and narrow route is neither fast nor busy, with the A36 or A27 providing better options for most through traffic.
