For the original B23, now the A29 near Port Erin, see B23 (Ballagawne - Four Roads).
The B23 is a short route which starts on the A25 at Ballaveare and heads south east through trees along Port Soderick Glen Road. It is gently dropping down hill to a sharp right turn, with a private drive ahead, after which the descent becomes steeper. A low, narrow bridge carries the Isle of Man Steam Railway overhead, and the road continues to wind down hill through trees, turning south east again to reach a junction with the A37, the southern end of the Marine Drive. The junction is a TOTSO, with priority given to traffic from the A37 heading round a horseshoe bend to Port Soderick on the B23. The last stretch of the route drops quite steeply down to a wide turning head, with a woodland car park below, and the road out to the shore ahead. This is private property, and despite the demolition of the former hotel, still closed to vehicles.
History
As originally numbered in the 1930's, the route was given the B37 number. It had been renumbered as the B23 by 1963.
