The B17 was one of the longer B roads in the original allocation. It started on the A6 at Kewaigue and headed west, crossing the A5, and continuing along The Cooil Road to Braaid. Here it crossed the B19, and continued to wind westwards through Eairy to Foxdale, where it ended on the original A4. The whole route was renumbered as the A24 at some point before 1963, and much more recently the southern end has become part of the re-routed and extended A6 which now forms a sort of ring road around Douglas.
The Manx Government Circular 1131 of 25/02/1926 defines this route as: Foxdale to the Braaid thence to the top of Pulrose Hill
