For the original B33 to the west of Douglas, see B33 (Braddan).
The B33 is one of the numerous links between the A7 and A5 along the southern coastal area of the Isle of Man. It starts on what appears, at first glance, to be a bypassed section of the A5, but old maps show that the current line of the A5 dates back to at least the 1870s. The junction is a wide fork, just as the A5 starts to climb over a slight hill on the coast, while the B33 turns inland to curve around the hill. The route initially follows the west bank of the River Colby as it curves north eastwards around the hill. The river then meanders off into some woodland while the road wiggles eastwards to a junction at Kentraugh, where it turns sharp left. Ahead lies the loop of road that returns to the A5, remaining wide and following a long straight which is as good, if not better, than many of the A roads on the island.
Now heading north, the B33 crosses a couple of fields and enters the small village of Croit e Caley. It winds along the main street past a mixture of old and new houses and then crosses the Isle of Man Steam Railway at a level crossing. The end of the route can now be seen a short distance ahead, with the B33 meeting the A7 at a simple T junction.
