The C1242 is a huge C-shaped Loop road on the Sleat Peninsula on Skye. The two ends are less than 4 miles apart, but as it crosses and re-crosses the peninsula to reach the scattered villages on the west coast it covers over 13 miles. It is a slow, but very scenic drive, with the west coast offering some fine views out to the Small Isles and also across Strathaird to the Cuillin beyond.
There are several steep hills on the two crossings, the northern one being across more open moorland, whilst the southern one is a little longer and also features some wooded glens. It is the rugged west coast, however, with its hidden bays and pretty villages clustered along the shore that makes this road worth the drive. Tarskavaig is the largest of the villages, sitting above the bay, with Tokavaig and Ord being tiny hamlets of just a few scattered houses.
