|Route outline (key)|
The C1118 follows General Booth Road and King Brude Road in the south west of Inverness. Despite being 'only' a C road, it is the signed route for HGV traffic between the A82 and the industrial estates and A9 to the north. This is because it avoids the narrow streets and tight junction on Telford Street, which the A82 follows. The northern end of the route is a traffic light controlled junction on the A862, which combined with the swing bridge over the Caledonian Canal just to the east, can be a serious bottleneck at times.
The southern junction, with the A82 is, in contrast, a simple T junction. However, this is planned to be changed in the coming years, with the road realigned to the east to meet the new Torvean Roundabout, serving the A8082 and new Inverness West Link which is designed to reduce congestion across the city. There are unfounded rumours that the C1118 may be upgraded to an A or B route when this is completed.
