The C1088 is a strange, meandering road from Culloden Moor across the River Nairn, past the Clava Cairns and on up the hill to Culdoich. It starts at the crossroads at Cumberlands Stone on the B9006, with the C1028 continuing ahead to Balloch. Heading south, it quickly reaches a second crossroads, where the B851 is crossed, before it drops down to cross the River Nairn. As it climbs the other side of the valley, there are views to the viaduct, and then the prehistoric Clava Cairns appear on the right, with car park. Beyond the cairns, the road zig-zags up the hill, passes under the railway and comes to an end on the C1056.
