The C1240 is a long and winding road which climbs up and over the hill, crossing from the north shore of Skye at Broadford to Heast on the south shore. It starts on the A87 in Harrapool, towards the centre of Broadford and heads south, climbing steadily as it turns a little to the east, and then back towards the south. It drops down into the small village of Heast and ends practically on the beach at the bottom end of the village. There are fine views in either direction as the road drops down, across the Sleat and the Small Isles to the south, and to the north across the scattered islands that lie between Skye and Applecross
