B71 (Isle of Man)

The B61 is one of the longer B roads in Douglas, although for most of its length it is running parallel to an A road, and in truth it is just a suburban street. It starts at a crossroads on the B61, Alexander Drive and heads north east along the straight Albany Road, passing an eclectic mix of suburban housing, mostly set back in mature gardens. At a wide Y junction, Albany Road turns right for a final short stretch to meet the A42, Woodbourne Road. This section of the B71 is possibly unique on the Isle of Man, as it is the only real spur on any of the A or B roads. The mainline of the route kinks left at the junction onto Somerset Road, another long straight, tree lined suburban road.

About half way along, Somerset Road crosses Thorny Road, and kinks a little to the left in the process, with a strange stop line marked out into the eastbound carriageway. This is the only real excitement along the route, however. At the next crossroads, the B76 turns right on York Road, and then it is passing the playing fields for St Ninians School. The B71 ends soon after at a crossroads on the A22, Ballaquayle Road, just south of the St Ninians Crossroads. The junction was formerly a triangular junction, but the left hand portion now seems to be a bus bay for the school.
