For other roads numbered C342, see C342.
The C342 consists of two clearly separate routes to the north west of Rathfriland. One of the routes starts on the A25 west of Rathfriland and follows the Clanrye River round to a crossroads with the B3. From here the road continues north and soon swings north west, crossing the other segment of the C342. Further along, the road turns south west to end on the B3 at Milltown. The other segment of the route starts on the B10 south of the latter's junction with the B25 and heads west towards a crossroads where it TOTSOs south. After crossing the other segment, the road meets the B3 at Brookevale.
