The C47 starts on a small roundabout on the A42 in the west of Ballymena. It runs south east along Sourhill Road which passes between the south western edge of the town and also the edge of the grounds of Galgorm Castle, which features a golf course too. The road soon crosses the B18 via a pair of roundabouts a very short distance apart. From here the road crosses a bridge over the railway line and before long ends on the A26 dual carriageway on an at-grade intersection.
